Terry stopped at 5.03. Since then the Temple got a TCP/IP stack, three network drivers, a virtio-scsi disk, a web server, a remote confessional and a rented rack. That is not 5.03 anymore. It is 5.1, Enterprise Edition, and it has a mark.
Version 5.1 EE
-
sys_os_versionis5.100(Kernel/KGlbls.HC). -
DD_OS_NAME_VERSIONreads "TempleOS V5.1 EE" (Adam/ADefine.HC). Everything that asks the define follows on its own:- the console header (
Doc/Start.DD), - the HtServ header:
Server: HtServ (TempleOS V5.1 EE), - the Wget header:
User-Agent: Adam/Net/Http (TempleOS V5.1 EE), - the front page and its title.
- the console header (
- The boot banner (
HomeSys.HC) says it in full: "TempleOS V5.1 Enterprise Edition". - Terry's demo account (
Demo/AcctExample) and the README follow. - The registry sees the new version on first boot and writes itself again, as Terry made it do.
The 5.03 left in .gitlab-ci.yml and the README is Terry's live CD we build from.
That one stays 5.03.
The sword and the scales
The front page gets the mark of the Enterprise Edition: a sword point up, the beam of the scales across its blade, two pans hanging level. Justice, as God keeps it. Drawn a pixel at a time in Terry's sixteen colors in the empty corner of the Term window. No image files, a Temple has no use for PNGs.
The page and its title no longer hard-code the version. The <exe> block asks
Define("DD_OS_NAME_VERSION"), so the next version bump needs no page edit.
How it was tested
QEMU, 256 MB, 1 vCPU, virtio-net:
| What | Seen |
|---|---|
| Console headers, both consoles | TempleOS V5.1 EE |
Define("DD_OS_NAME_VERSION"), sys_os_version
|
TempleOS V5.1 EE, 5.100
|
| Wget to a server on the host | User-Agent: Adam/Net/Http (TempleOS V5.1 EE) |
curl -D - against HtServ |
Server: HtServ (TempleOS V5.1 EE) |
| Front page | version from the server, logo top right (headless Chrome screenshot) |
Deploying
Kernel/KGlbls.HC changed, so tools/update_vds.py HOST rebuilds the kernel with
BootHDIns('C'). If C: does not come back, pick D at the boot menu.
Known sins
- The version is a float.
5.100prints as5.1with%0.1f, and anything that still uses%5.3fprints5.100. - The logo is drawn in the browser, so it is only on the web page, not on the TempleOS screen itself.
Terry, forgive us. We gave your Temple a version number you never chose. The CIA's logs will say 5.1 EE from now on.
